I Hate Being Wrong

Remember all the chaos of 2020, when we were struggling through the pandemic, and also preparing for a presidential election? I remember reading that the new postmaster, a Trump appointee named Louis DeJoy, was doing his best to slow things down in order to interfere with mail-in voting. I was INCENSED, and remained so until the most recent issue of Time Magazine messed it all up for me.

I don’t remember if my news sources back then provided possible explanations for DeJoy’s “nefarious” actions, or if they did and I ignored them. While I believe much of the disinformation in this country has come from Fox News and far right social media sources, the more progressive sources can also get things wrong and slant things too far toward the negative. Sadly, I lack the patience to go back and find out if the fault is with me or the news, so I’m going to say it was me.

After reading the Time article, I can see that the long list of what DeJoy has done for the post office contains really important stuff. And the only reason he’s been able to get these things done is because Republican lawmakers were willing to work with him. AND the postal worker union loves him.

This has served to remind me that if something outrages me, there is probably more to the story than I know, and it’s my responsibility as an American to dig deeper.

It’s your responsibility too, so here’s the article.

  1. Ok, but Time article states he is fighting for redemption from his first year in office where he did sabotage the post office. He did a turn around which is great for him and the post office, but that does not mean that he didn’t try to stop the 2020 mail in votes in his first few months in the office. It is a great story of how a Trumpian can see the light and change.

    1. Was his goal to sabotage, or did he just make a snap decision about not letting the trucks wait longer for mail? A decision he quickly realized was stupid so he changed it. I can forgive stupidity faster than I can forgive deliberate sabotage!

      1. Ok, but how about when he decommissioned perfectly working sorting machines and put them in the trash. Machines specifically designed for voting ballots?

The Big Pivot

About Me

After twenty-five years on the farm, I’m adjusting to the adventures of city life. Part of that adjustment is figuring out what I want to write about now, since sheep are no longer part of my daily life. I’m challenging myself creatively by painting with pastels and playing the ukelele as I seek my new writing path.
