The pandemic has had interesting side-effects in our household. To combat the stress, Melissa pursued her love of orchids. She researched and read and watched videos, and soon decided she needed an orchidarium. (Yes, it’s a thing.) She began making lists of orchids she’d like to buy, and the environmental conditions each variety needed.
She spent so many hours drooling over photos of exotic orchids that I began referring to this as Orchid Porn. I guess as addictions go, orchid porn is pretty mild.
But then as I began falling deeper in love with the ukelele, I started spending more time looking at the different brands, the exotic woods, the pretty rosette patterns, the range of sounds. I think we can safely refer to my addiction as Ukelele Porn.
Melissa now has about 20 orchids, but they aren’t very expensive. I now own five ukeleles, and some of them are expensive. What am I doing? I can barely play! But they are so, so pretty… Ukelele players speak of a terrible disease that afflicts them: UAS. Ukelele Acquisition Syndrome.
It’s an expensive syndrome, but thank goodness there doesn’t seem to be a cure.

I have heard it is the easiest instrument to learn. You should take lessons. I am starting violin lessons next week and I am 62.
There are oodles of online classes/tutorials. But i can see someday needing individual help. Good luck with the violin!
Your Ukuleles are exquisite! I, myself, dabble in decorating porn…particularly French country. I have magazines, books, watch HGTV obsessively and am constantly changing things up at home with estate sale finds. I also have a coat issue. Summer is hard in the south for coat addicts. Withdrawal leads to delirium and sweats…but so does wearing them…
