About 10-12 years ago I recorded an audio book for my memoir, Hit by a Farm. To do this I spent about 7 hours a day for 5 days perched on a stool in a very small recording booth. I had a mic and a small window through which I could see Patti and Karen, the women of Dog Ear Audio who were recording me. I also had in my hand a dog training clicker. Whenever I made a mistake I’d press the clicker and say the line again. The clicker created a massive spike in the recording so Patti could find the places she needed to fix.
This was toward the end of day four. I was tired and after all that time talking neither my mouth or my brain was working right. I saw this particular word a certain way and COULD NOT unsee it. I tried and tried and got so silly and giggly we nearly had to call it a day. Meanwhile, as I was struggling with words all day long, Melissa was hiking the high desert hills of central Colorado and going fishing with Patti and Karen’s friends. Hmph.

I love it, especially, the laughter in the background. I must say the finished product was great, we just listened to it as we drove from San Fran to Mesa, AZ. It was a wonderful book to listen to in the car while driving. Felt like you were in the car with us.

But with the audio you can shut me up…harder to do in person. 🙂
